Job Description

A well-established, design-forward architecture firm is seeking to add a Director of Corporate Architecture to its team. Known for intelligent planning, integrated delivery, and long-term partnerships, this firm specializes in responsive architectural solutions across workplace, tenant improvement, life sciences, and commercial interiors. This is a key opportunity for a licensed architect with a leadership mindset and a hands-on approach to join a growing studio and shape its continued evolution.

This is not a passive management role. We’re looking for someone who rolls up their sleeves and takes ownership of projects, from programming to punch list.

Director of Corporate Architecture – Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and oversee the design, documentation, and delivery of corporate interiors, workplace HQs, and tenant improvement projects across public and private sectors

  • Lead project visioning, programming, and client engagement, translating strategic business needs into well-crafted built environments.

  • Manage the design process from schematic design through construction administration, including technical detailing, permitting, and consultant coordination.

  • Serve as a primary client contact, building lasting relationships through transparency, expertise, and creative problem-solving

  • Mentor architectural staff through all project phases, from concept to CD sets, with a focus on detail quality and technical growth.

  • Work closely with in-house engineers, interior designers, and project managers to ensure a seamless and coordinated delivery model.

  • Participate in studio leadership: staffing, hiring, QA/QC reviews, and internal best practices.

  • Contribute to the practice’s long-term growth through thought leadership, business development input, and team development.

  • Ensure all work aligns with firm standards, schedule targets, and client expectations

       Qualifications:

  • Licensed Architect (U.S.) with a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Architecture

  • 10–15 years of experience in architectural design, with a strong portfolio in corporate interiors, workplace design, and tenant improvement

  • Hands-on experience with Revit documentation, space planning, and construction detailing

  • Proven leadership of project teams, consultants, and staff in a fast-paced, collaborative studio environment

  • Comfortable presenting to both end users and executive stakeholders

  • Deep knowledge of building codes, ADA, construction documents, and jurisdictional approval processes

  • Background in integrated A/E firms or collaborative delivery environments preferred

  • Must be based in or commutable to a central Upper Midwest metro area (no relocation available)

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple project streams simultaneously

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills

  • Results-driven and aligned with high-integrity, team-first environments

Why This Role Stands Out:

  • Key leadership seat with real input into studio growth and standards

  • Opportunity to guide high-impact workplace and tenant improvement work across commercial, government, and science & technology clients

  • Design-led environment with a high-performance culture and long-term vision

  • Competitive compensation, performance bonus, and full benefits

  • Flexible hybrid schedule and strong internal design + engineering support

  • Direct visibility with firm principals and a future path to studio-level leadership or ownership
