JOB DESCRIPTION

A growing and well-established structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabricator is seeking an experienced Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Detailer to join its team. This position plays a critical role in supporting commercial, industrial, institutional, and specialty construction projects by producing accurate fabrication and erection drawings for structural steel and miscellaneous metals packages.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare detailed shop drawings, erection drawings, and fabrication packages for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects
  • Interpret architectural, structural, and contract drawings and specifications
  • Utilize Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar detailing software to create fabrication-ready drawings
  • Coordinate detailing activities with project managers, engineers, architects, general contractors, and fabrication teams
  • Produce material takeoffs, bolt lists, and fabrication details
  • Review RFIs, change orders, revisions, and addenda to maintain drawing accuracy
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts and constructability issues prior to fabrication
  • Support production schedules by delivering accurate and timely drawing packages
  • Coordinate connections, field fit conditions, and erection sequencing requirements
  • Provide technical support to fabrication shops and field erection crews as needed
  • Ensure all drawings comply with project specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Structural Steel Detailer
  • Experience detailing both structural steel and miscellaneous metals preferred
  • Proficiency with Tekla Structures, SDS/2, AutoCAD, or similar steel detailing software
  • Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes
  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, institutional, manufacturing, or large-scale construction projects
  • Knowledge of AISC standards and steel industry practices
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Base Salary: $60,000 – $100,000 DOE
