Company Overview: Our client, a leading company in the waste management industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Landfill Manager to oversee the daily operations of their landfill site. Job Summary: The Landfill Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of landfill operations, including site management, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and budget management. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the landfill, maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, and implementing best practices in waste management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in landfill operations, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Management: Oversee daily landfill operations, including waste disposal, compaction, cover application, and site maintenance, ensuring all activities are conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including air quality, water quality, and waste handling requirements.
  • Staff Supervision: Lead and manage a team of landfill operators and support staff, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure high standards of work.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the landfill’s operating budget, monitoring expenses and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of landfill equipment, coordinating with the maintenance team to ensure all machinery is in good working order.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Implement and oversee environmental monitoring programs, including groundwater sampling, gas collection, and leachate management, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Safety Management: Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing safety protocols, conducting regular safety meetings, and ensuring all staff are trained in safe work practices.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on landfill operations, environmental compliance, and financial performance to senior management.
  • Community Relations: Act as a liaison with the local community, addressing any concerns or issues related to landfill operations and participating in community outreach initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement best practices and process improvements to enhance landfill operations and environmental performance.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in landfill operations or waste management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
    • In-depth knowledge of landfill operations and environmental regulations.
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency in using landfill management software and tools.
    • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Certification in landfill operations (e.g., SWANA Certified Landfill Manager) is preferred.
