As a key member of our tooling team in California, the Machine Shop Supervisor will oversee daily operations in our machine shop, focusing on the development, repair, and continuous improvement of thermoform tooling. Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise the machine shop team, overseeing scheduling, workflow, and performance evaluations
- Support compliance with ISO 13485, GMP, Green Certification, and 5S programs
- Foster a “Safety First” culture and enforce all workplace safety policies and procedures
- Collaborate with Design Manager to assign tasks and set priorities based on production needs
- Troubleshoot tooling and thermoforming issues with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement
- Program, set up, and operate CNC machining centers to produce high-precision tooling components
- Utilize CAM software (preferably Gibbs CAM) for CNC programming and adjustments
- Inspect and measure machined parts using common measuring instruments to ensure conformance to engineering drawings
- Oversee mold polishing, back drilling, and cutting die preparation
- Mentor, train, and support machinists, including onboarding new personnel and developing internal talent
- Maintain documentation of completed work and ensure proper recordkeeping
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate more extensive service as needed
- Promote a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
- May assist in other manufacturing or tooling functions as needed
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience programming and operating CNC machining centers
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team lead role in a manufacturing or machine shop setting
- Strong mechanical, math, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Haas and Fadal machines; Gibbs CAM experience preferred
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and use precision measuring tools
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on approach to problem-solving
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Coursework or degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is a plus
- Must pass technical skills assessment
