About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Shipping Department Foreman to lead our shipping operations and oversee the daily logistics of steel and reinforcing bar handling. This hands-on leadership role requires a candidate with a strong background in shipping, supervision, and heavy equipment operation, as well as a commitment to safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage daily operations of the shipping department
Supervise shipping personnel, including hiring, training, development, discipline, and termination
Ensure safe and efficient loading and unloading of steel and reinforcing bar
Coordinate vehicle and fleet maintenance
Maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations
Oversee material handling and accurate tracking of shipments
Support yard and department upkeep and organization
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Valid CDL and clean driving record
Previous experience in shipping or logistics
Experience loading steel or building materials
Proficient with heavy equipment, forklift, and tractor/trailer operation
Rigging and crane experience strongly preferred
Supervisory experience required
OSHA and DOT compliance training
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently
Must be able to work in varying weather conditions and remain on your feet for long periods
