Job Description

Position Summary
Responsible for coordinating and expediting the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to the production schedule. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, shipment, and shipping schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, shipping status, and production problems.

Essential Job Duties

  • Create and manage all job orders for production.

  • Schedule, plan, and release work to the production floor based on labor availability, material readiness, and level-loading goals.

  • Determine which jobs can be performed in-house versus those that need to be outsourced, balancing capacity and cost.

  • Communicate and report departmental capacity loading and shipping/dispatch capacity to ensure visibility and proactive adjustments.

  • Collaborate with department supervisors and other stakeholders to assess progress, identify bottlenecks, and make schedule adjustments as needed.

  • Revise production and shipping schedules in response to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other disruptions; coordinate with management, sales, project management, engineering, operations, and logistics teams.

  • Record and report key production data, including output volumes, raw material consumption, quality control metrics, and shipping performance (on-time shipments, carrier performance, shipping accuracy).

  • Distribute updated production and shipping schedules and work orders to the appropriate departments in a timely manner.

  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles—such as level loading, labor optimization, overtime management, cost control, and shipment efficiency—to improve production and dispatch consistency.

  • Oversee outbound shipments: ensure finished goods are packaged correctly, shipment documentation is accurate, carriers scheduled, tracking maintained, and follow-up performed when shipments are delayed or damaged.

  • Maintain coordination between production and shipping/receiving functions to align production completion with dispatch schedules and order-fulfillment commitments.

Skill, Experience & Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree or trade school program certificate in business or manufacturing preferred.

  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, operations or logistics.

  • Excellent organizational and negotiation skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and shipping/dispatch logistics.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.

  • Ability to analyze data to make decisions in the best interest of the company.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shipments simultaneously.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Office-based role with frequent interaction with production floor, shipping/receiving dock, and occasional travel within the building or to nearby locations.

  • Collaborative team environment with opportunities for growth and learning.

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time; ability to move between production, shipping, office areas.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs (e.g., moving equipment, hardware installations, packaging materials) and occasionally handle heavier packaging/shipments as needed.
