JOB TITLE: Shop Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Shop Supervisor will assist in assigning work to fleet mechanics to ensure efficient, safe maintenance, repair, and servicing of company equipment, by applying techniques in best maintenance practices to maximize equipment reliability and resource availability. The ideal candidate would be an individual who is self-motivated, technically inclined to help the shop diagnosis and repair equipment into the evening shift to meet the next day fleet requirements, have a strong operational background, embrace change and remains calm in a changing and fast-paced work environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and scheduling of repair work. Monitor performance, provide feedback to fleet mechanics to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and on time to minimize downtime. Take the necessary action to redirect activities as appropriate.
- Prepare daily handoff report to the Supervisor Group distribution group including key updates, important changes in availability of equipment, ongoing tasks, and any areas requiring immediate attention to ensure smooth transition for morning shift.
- Support and work the evening shift once implemented to allow for routine service and repairs to minimize disruption with daily operations and to maximize the time when equipment is not in use. Determine the work, techniques to be used. Controlling the workflow from start to finish.
- Work together with the Fleet Maintenance Manager to ensure sufficient equipment is operational, serviced, and ready to meet daily route requirements.
- Leads technical competence of maintenance personnel and developing a plan that supports safety and provides direction, training and support to the team for troubleshooting, maintaining and modification/additions.
- Automotive Service Writer to review repair orders, inspecting the accuracy of the work, keeping track of labor & parts.
- Oversee the data in Fleet Maintenance Software System (Dossier) and consistently review and report the pending orders to prioritize work. Reviews, analyzes and makes recommendations for process improvements to enhance maintenance performance.
- Travel to Santa Maria shop to provide mechanical support as needed.
- Travel to satellite locations in Lompoc and Oxnard to diagnose and repair units.
- Properly document all critical information including delays and safety concerns to Fleet Maintenance Manager and Shop Coordinator at the end of shift daily.
- Perform work in a safe manner to protect oneself, team, and the public from injury or harm.
- Complete a routine check to ensure all equipment is secured and turned off.
- Promote safety awareness, identify potential safety hazards in the shop and follow safety procedures and policies. Will take appropriate and necessary action to prevent incidents.
- Inspect work by employees and contractors (walk around/be visible) in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with standards and specifications; advise of work in progress, operating problems and actual or potential delays.
- Maintain a feeling of pride in work; strive to achieve all goals.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide guidance, mentorship, direction and training to Mechanics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance for a fleet of 100+ trucks.
- 3 years of hands on supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of diesel, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Strong knowledge in troubleshooting and diagnosing.
- Knowledge of Federal, State & local agency regulations pertaining to safe work practices.
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products, Fleet Management systems for documentation and reporting purposes.
- Ability to train and mentor the team of fleet mechanics.
- Ability to formulate, affect, interpret, and implement operating practices and perform work that affects business operations to a substantial degree.
- Ability to analyze and present data.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to provide clear instructions, report problems, and collaborate with other departments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with maintenance personnel, senior management and drivers.
- Adaptability to changing situations and can perform multiple tasks with multiple priorities in a fast paced- environment.
- Excellent follow-through and attention to detail.
- Ability to understand safety protocols and ensure all safety measures are followed by the team.
- 2 years of commercial driving experience with clean driving record is a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
