 Project Accountant / Accounts Payable Specialist

The Project Accountant / Accounts Payable Specialist will be responsible for managing project accounting functions and processing accounts payable to ensure accurate financial tracking and timely payments. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and knowledge of construction accounting practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and manage accounts payable, including vendor invoice review, coding, and payment scheduling

  • Maintain and reconcile project cost ledgers and general ledger accounts

  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes

  • Prepare and review job cost reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness

  • Collaborate with project managers and subcontractors to track project budgets and costs

  • Support the finance team with audit preparation and compliance requirements

  • Maintain accurate vendor files and ensure compliance with company policies

  • Assist in forecasting and budgeting activities related to projects

  • Handle any discrepancies or issues related to invoices and payments promptly

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in project accounting or accounts payable, preferably within the construction or general contracting industry

  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and job costing

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor, or similar

  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree a plus
