SUMMARY:
Produces machined parts, operating a Swiss computer numerical control (CNC) machine, writes and reads programs and blueprints, maintains and improves quality and safety standards; Keeps and creates records; maintains equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Setup and operate Tsugami CNC Swiss lathes
- Perform a variety of activities with only a normal level of supervision
- Monitor equipment for proper operation
- Inspect first pieces and obtain approval from designated person before commencing production
- Inspect parts during run according to established procedures/functional specifications/aesthetic specifications/customer requirements
- Use common gages (calipers, micrometers, thread gages, depth micrometers, etc.)
- Make general decisions regarding quality, tolerances, and sequence of operations
- Identify and resolve routine (and some non-routine) issues through effective troubleshooting
- Complete secondary operations as required or instructed
- Perform daily maintenance checks on all equipment operated
- Exercise proper care in the use of tools, equipment, and materials
- Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material, improper operations, and unusual conditions to supervision
- Communicate effectively with internal company partners (co-workers, internal customers, etc.) when performing assigned tasks
- Keep the supervisor aware in a timely manner of any issues needing the supervisor's involvement
- Maintain timely and accurate records and reports, as required
- Observe good housekeeping and safety habits
- Support change and company/departmental goals through actions and behavior
- Perform assignments in a timely and efficient manner while meeting customer quality expectations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED (preferred) and one two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL and ABILITY REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to read & understand blueprints and technical documents commensurate with machine operation.
- A genuine belief in continuous improvement and disciplined processes and a willingness to analyze, challenge and change processes, if needed, to create a more efficient environment and culture.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Self-starter with ability to multi-task and prioritize workday/projects independently.
- Firm understanding of CNC programs including formatting and editing.
- Ability to use various inspection gages.
- Confidence to approach supervisor with suggestions to changes to processes, if needed, to create a more efficient environment and culture.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Conceptual skills, Process improvement, Verbal communication, Functional and Technical skills including Blueprints and technical drawings, Controls and Instrumentation, Coordination, Attention to detail and Judgment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Frequent time spent standing and reaching with hands and arms.
- Frequent time spent walking
- Frequently required to use hands to work on machines and move materials.
- Exposure to manufacturing environment including temperature variations with elevated noise levels and machine lubrication oils for extended periods of time.
- Moderate physical activity in overseeing operation of screw machines.
- Occasional strenuous physical activity requires lifting, pushing and pulling.
- Frequent bending and occasional squatting and keeling to repair or observe machines.
- Infrequent lifting of raw material, pans of parts and/or tooling.
