Senior Property Accountant

A World Class Real Estate Firm with 40+ years of expertise in Development, Investment, Construction, and Asset Management throughout the greater NYC Metro Region and select markets along the Eastern Seaboard, is seeking to hire a Senior Property Accountant for their New Jersey Office.

This highly regarded award-winning firm specializes in the development, management, and operation of high-performance Class A Office, Luxury Residential, Industrial, and Mixed-Use developments throughout the Eastern United States.   

As a Senior Property Accountant, you will work as part of an extremely collaborative team applying the principles of accounting and finance to analyze financial information and compile accurate financial reports, while ensuring compliance with company policy and legal regulations, and maintaining high standards of accuracy and precision.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze general ledgers for a portfolio of commercial, residential, and/or mixed-use properties.
  • Develop budgets and reforecasts in collaboration with executive and property management.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial packages internally and externally to management, stakeholders, and government agencies.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual variance reports.
  • Prepare Common Area Maintenance (CAM), utility, and tax reconciliations.
  • Review commercial leases to ensure accurate billing.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Supervise and mentor junior accountants.
  • Establish and maintain excellent tenant relationships.  

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated commercial property accounting experience with prior background working with a real estate investment, development, or property management company.    
  • Proven experience successfully meeting monthly close deadlines and preparing monthly financial packages for internal and external stakeholders and agencies.  
  • Demonstrated experience calculating Common Area maintenance (CAM) and utility reconciliations.
  • Ability to maintain thorough knowledge of lease provisions.
  • Must be comfortable reading and deciphering legal documents.
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and AIA billing is desirable but not required.  
  • Must possess effective customer service and communication skills with the ability to maintain strong tenant relationships.   
  • Proficiency with Yardi, MRI, Sage, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
