Position Overview We’re seeking a passionate, hands‑on agronomist early in their career to support our team’s growing focus on organic specialty crop production. This role is ideal for someone who blends scientific know-how with practical field and mechanical experience, especially those with a background in potatoes or production agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with development and execution of organic cropping plans, including potato and other specialty crops.
- Provide day‑to‑day agronomic support during planting, cultivation, scouting, fertility, and harvest phases.
- Collect and interpret soil, plant tissue, and tissue analysis data; recommend amendments based on findings.
- Support integrated pest management strategies (cover crops, cultural controls) consistent with organic certification standards.
- Maintain and troubleshoot farm machinery and equipment; coordinate basic repairs.
- Communicate agronomic recommendations and results to team members and leadership.
- Contribute to field trials, harvest reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (Agronomy, Crop Science, Horticulture, or related field) OR significant relevant hands‑on experience in production agriculture.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for organic specialty crop production (potatoes a plus).
- Comfortable operating/maintaining farm machinery and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Strong observational and analytical abilities; familiar with soil and plant nutrient concepts.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt, with a collaborative, solution‑oriented mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior hands‑on experience in organic systems, especially potato cultivation.
- Experience in field scouting, production planning, and harvest operations.
- Familiarity with mechanical repair and maintenance in an agricultural setting.
- Ability to travel to regional field sites as needed.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
