Our client is seeking a hands-on Controller who is ready to step up, take ownership, and serve as the financial leader for a growing waste hauling operation.
This role is ideal for an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or strong Senior Accountant who wants a true next step — full ownership of the accounting function, close partnership with operations, and direct access to leadership.
You will play a key role in building structure, improving financial visibility, and supporting long-term growth in a fast-moving, operationally driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Own the month-end close, financial reporting, and internal financial statements
Develop, implement, and improve accounting processes, controls, and SOPs
Oversee AP, AR, billing accuracy, payroll coordination, and general ledger integrity
Partner closely with operations to improve job costing, route profitability, margins, and budgeting
Prepare budgets, forecasts, cash flow tracking, and variance analysis
Support audits, compliance, and internal reviews as needed
Provide leadership with clear, actionable financial insights to support decision-making
Ideal Background
Experience in waste hauling, recycling, trucking, transportation, construction, or other asset-heavy service environments
Currently an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Accountant ready to step into a Controller role
Hands-on and comfortable building structure where processes are evolving
Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP or accounting systems
Thrives in a collaborative, high-accountability, family-owned or entrepreneurial environment
Work Environment
Location-agnostic role with flexibility for the right candidate
Strong collaboration with operations and leadership is essential
Occasional in-person interaction may be required based on business needs
