Job Title: Fire Alarm Designer – NICET Level III (Fire Alarm Systems)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer with NICET Level III certification in Fire Alarm Systems to join our team in Wilmington, NC. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design and layout of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA codes, AHJ requirements, and project specifications. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, AHJs, and field teams to ensure accurate, code-compliant, and timely delivery of fire alarm drawings and submittals.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop fire alarm system layouts using AutoCAD or Revit
  • Prepare detailed shop drawings, riser diagrams, voltage drop calculations, battery calculations, and point-to-point wiring diagrams
  • Interpret architectural, electrical, mechanical, and structural plans to coordinate fire alarm design
  • Ensure designs meet all applicable codes and standards (NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, etc.)
  • Create and manage submittals, as-builts, and record drawings
  • Collaborate with AHJs for permitting and approvals
  • Support project managers and installation teams throughout project life cycles
  • Review field markups and incorporate changes into final as-built documentation
  • Maintain project documentation and track progress

Qualifications:

  • NICET Level III Certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Required)
  • 5+ years of experience in fire alarm design and drafting
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 72, local building/fire codes, and AHJ requirements
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and fire alarm design software
  • Familiarity with systems from major manufacturers (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, EST, Silent Knight, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NICET Level III Fire Alarm Systems
  • Experience working with design-build contractors or fire protection firms
  • Bachelor's degree or associate degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or related field
