Part-Time Mohs Medical Assistant
Position: Medical Assistant – Mohs SurgeryEmployment Type: Part-TimeLocation: Staunton, VA
We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and compassionate Medical Assistant (MA) to join our dermatology and Mohs surgery team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will have experience in dermatology, surgical assisting, or a similar clinical setting and be comfortable working closely with a Mohs surgeon.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Mohs surgeon during surgical procedures.
- Provide hands-on surgical assistance and maintain a sterile field.
- Prepare surgical rooms, instruments, and supplies before procedures.
- Prepare patients for Mohs surgery and assist with pre- and post-operative care.
- Assist with patient positioning and surgical site preparation.
- Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and post-operative instructions.
- Prepare, label, and properly handle tissue specimens according to office protocols.
- Assist with hemostasis, suturing, and other surgical needs as directed by the physician.
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain surgical instruments and treatment rooms.
- Monitor patients throughout their visit and communicate any concerns to the clinical team.
- Document patient information and procedures accurately in the medical record.
- Maintain infection-control and safety standards.
- Provide compassionate and professional patient care.
- Help maintain efficient patient flow in a busy Mohs surgery practice.
Requirements
- Previous Medical Assistant experience required.
- Dermatology or Mohs surgery experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with surgical assisting or outpatient procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and infection-control practices.
- Comfortable working in a surgical environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a physician and clinical team.
- Dependable, professional, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Preferred Experience
- 1–2+ years of dermatology or Mohs experience preferred.
- Previous experience assisting with dermatologic surgery.
- Familiarity with surgical instruments and specimen handling.
- Experience with wound care and post-operative patient education.
- Experience working directly with a Mohs surgeon.
Schedule & Compensation
Part-Time | Schedule to be discussed based on practice needs and candidate availability.
Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
