Sheet Metal Estimator

A growing, employee-owned mechanical construction organization is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Estimator to join its Preconstruction and Estimating team in Charlotte, NC.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of mechanical construction estimating experience with a strong background in commercial HVAC, ductwork, and sheet metal systems.

This position will be responsible for developing accurate estimates based on project drawings and specifications, including labor, materials, equipment, takeoffs, production rates, scopes, proposals, and change orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop accurate estimates for HVAC and sheet metal projects.

  • Analyze drawings and specifications to determine labor, material, and equipment costs.

  • Perform material takeoffs for ductwork and sheet metal systems.

  • Review RFPs, RFQs, change orders, and other project documents.

  • Determine labor hours, work crews, and production rates.

  • Break project scopes into clearly defined tasks.

  • Develop bids, estimates, scopes of work, and proposals.

  • Price change orders and changes to existing projects.

  • Maintain current material and labor pricing within estimating software.

  • Identify scope gaps and ensure complete estimates are produced.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Work collaboratively with preconstruction, estimating, and operations teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mechanical construction estimating experience required.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC, ductwork, and sheet metal systems.

  • Experience performing material takeoffs and developing detailed estimates.

  • Experience determining labor hours, production rates, and construction costs.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.

  • Experience developing bids, scopes of work, and proposals.

  • Knowledge of computerized estimating and takeoff programs.

  • Autodesk Fabrication ESTmep or QuoteSoft experience preferred.

  • Ability to perform manual and on-screen takeoffs.

  • Basic knowledge of construction accounting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $75,000–$100,000
