Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Grain & Inventory Cost Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will oversee the financial tracking, reporting, and analysis of grain inventory and related costs. You’ll work closely with operations, merchandising, and leadership to ensure accurate inventory valuation, cost of goods sold calculations, and compliance with accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate records of grain purchases, sales, transfers, and inventory levels.
Calculate and reconcile cost of goods sold for grain and other agricultural products.
Monitor grain position reports and verify physical inventory against accounting records.
Collaborate with location managers to resolve inventory discrepancies.
Analyze commodity margins, freight costs, and storage expenses.
Prepare monthly and annual grain and inventory reports for management.
Assist with internal and external audits.
Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in inventory tracking.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Ag Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in grain, commodities, or agribusiness.
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory valuation methods.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems; grain accounting software experience a plus.
Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
