Universal Banker

Position Summary
A growing financial institution in the Baton Rouge market is seeking a customer-focused Universal Banker to serve as a key point of contact for retail and consumer banking clients. This role combines teller responsibilities, account servicing, relationship development, and sales support to provide a full-service banking experience. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with customers, identifying financial needs, and delivering exceptional service while supporting branch growth objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
Customer Service & Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary contact for customers visiting the branch.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through proactive communication and personalized service.
- Identify customer needs and recommend appropriate banking products and services.
- Resolve customer inquiries, account issues, and service requests promptly and professionally.
Teller & Transaction Processing
- Accurately process deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, cashier's checks, wire transfers, and other banking transactions.
- Balance cash drawer daily and maintain compliance with bank policies and procedures.
- Assist with ATM balancing, vault operations, and branch cash management as assigned.
- Ensure all transactions are completed accurately and securely.
Account Opening & Sales Support
- Open and maintain consumer and business deposit accounts.
- Assist customers with online banking enrollment, debit cards, mobile banking, and digital banking services.
- Cross-sell checking accounts, savings products, CDs, consumer loans, credit cards, and other bank services.
- Generate referrals for mortgage, commercial, wealth management, and other specialized banking departments.
Compliance & Operations
- Adhere to all banking regulations, security procedures, and internal policies.
- Maintain knowledge of BSA, AML, CIP, OFAC, and other regulatory requirements.
- Assist with branch audits and operational reviews.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
- 1+ years of banking, customer service, retail sales, or cash-handling experience preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify customer needs and recommend financial solutions.
- Detail-oriented with excellent accuracy and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and banking technology platforms.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
Preferred Experience
- Current or Previous teller, personal banker, universal banker, or retail banking experience.
- Experience opening deposit accounts and discussing consumer banking products.
- Cash handling and balancing experience.
- Knowledge of consumer lending products and digital banking services.
