JOB DESCRIPTION

A respected and growing structural steel fabricator and erector in the Cincinnati Metro Area is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join its team. This individual will play a key role in securing new business by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects across commercial, industrial, manufacturing, institutional, and specialty construction markets.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements

  • Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals packages

  • Prepare detailed estimates for fabrication, erection, equipment, labor, freight, and subcontracted work

  • Solicit, evaluate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations

  • Develop conceptual, budgetary, negotiated, and hard-bid estimates

  • Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities

  • Prepare bid proposals, clarifications, and scope reviews

  • Coordinate with project managers, detailers, engineers, fabrication personnel, and field operations throughout the estimating process

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and participate in project turnover meetings upon award

  • Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and productivity metrics

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, owners, and industry partners

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of estimating experience within the structural steel industry preferred

  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection processes

  • Experience estimating both structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings

  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing detailed cost estimates

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and estimating software

  • Knowledge of AISC standards and industry best practices

  • Strong communication, organizational, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously

  • Base Salary: $100,000 – $150,000 DOE
