Job Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for the strategic direction, financial management, and process flow of the yard warehouse, transportation, shipping/receiving, and manufacturing operations. This role provides leadership to managers and supervisors overseeing yard, fleet, and steel plant functions. As a member of the management team, this position works collaboratively to ensure exceptional customer service and operational efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize material flow, ensuring timely receipt and delivery to maximize building completions.
- Oversee production and quality control processes to meet customer service standards.
- Identify and implement continuous process improvements by resolving problems and analyzing trends.
- Provide coaching, direction, and leadership to ensure seamless collaboration within the Operations team and the broader company.
- Manage inventory forecasting, budgeting, and expense control for yard and steel plant operations.
- Optimize warehouse operations, including product handling, storage, layout design, and equipment utilization.
- Develop, implement, and enforce Operations policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Control and minimize overtime and repair/maintenance costs at all locations.
- Ensure proper facility and equipment maintenance, updating capital expenditure (CapEx) strategies when necessary.
- Lead and enforce safety initiatives, embedding safety as a daily operational priority.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships, working collaboratively to resolve supply chain issues.
- Oversee DOT compliance for company operations.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends through ongoing education and professional development.
Education and Experience:
- Required: Experience in the building trade industry (construction, manufacturing, or related field).
- Preferred: Knowledge of manufacturing processes, building materials, and construction workflows.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience.
- Financial understanding, including budget creation and cost management.
- Strong math, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate a diverse workforce respectfully.

- Hands-on leadership style, leading by example.
- Strong multitasking and communication skills (both written and verbal).
