We’re looking for an experienced Commercial Underwriter III to join our growing Commercial Lending team. This role is responsible for conducting in-depth credit and financial analysis on new loan requests—ensuring safety, soundness, and minimal risk to the organization. You’ll focus on more complex loans including LIHTC, large CRE transactions, Commercial & Industrial loans, and will progressively underwrite New Market Tax Credit deals. Experience in renewable energy or solar lending is strongly preferred.
This is a remote position open to candidates based in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, or Arkansas.
Partner with loan officers and market leaders to assess credit requests and develop risk mitigation strategies.
Conduct credit reviews for loan packages, evaluating compliance with Credit Union policies and NCUA guidelines.
Analyze business operations, cash flow, financials, collateral, management, and projections.
Utilize tools such as UCA, Net Operating Income, EBITDA, and Global Debt Service to calculate financial ratios.
Research industry trends and market data to support credit analysis.
Review and incorporate third-party reports and financial projections.
Restructure deals as needed and prepare detailed credit memos for Credit Committee review.
Support loan extensions, modifications, and periodic portfolio reviews.
Stay current on NCUA regulations, credit trends, and internal credit culture.
Assist with special projects and administrative duties as needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
7+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis and underwriting
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in financial analysis tools, spreadsheets, and credit systems
Experience with renewable energy or solar lending
Background in development finance
Familiarity with Moody’s KMV, Baker Hill / NextGen, or similar spreading software
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to interpret financial documents and market data
Proficient in evaluating creditworthiness and restructuring loans
Excellent attention to detail and written communication
Organizational awareness and results-driven mindset
Fully remote role within MS, AL, TN, LA, or AR
