Trusts & Estates Associate (Mid-Level) – Pittsburgh, PA

Seeking a mid-level Trusts & Estates Associate with 2-4 years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate to work in our Pittsburgh, PA office. The position requires significant client contact and the ability to excel when working independently. Superior client communication, writing, research, computer, and organizational skills are a must.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administration of trusts and estates from inception to completion
  • Reviewing and drafting trust and probate administration documents and other related documents
  • Drafting wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives, deeds, beneficiary designation forms, and other estate planning documents
  • Conducting legal research regarding complex procedural and substantive issues related to probate and estate planning
  • Building relationships with existing and prospective clients through networking and business development activities

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate administration
  • Juris Doctorate degree
  • Must be licensed in Pennsylvania
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Advanced research and writing skills including proficiency with legal research tools, including WestLaw
  • Strong academic and employment credentials
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Must have the ability to work independently and efficiently, as well as in a team environment involving extensive collaboration with other attorneys, paralegals, and office staff
  • Outstanding organizational and communication skills
  • Must have excellent attention to detail

Education and Experience:

  • Bar license (Pennsylvania required; other jurisdictions are a plus)
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2-4 years in a law firm setting

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily an office environment
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk
  • Regularly navigates the office and uses office equipment (phones, copier, printer, mail machine, A/V equipment, etc.)
  • Consistently uses a computer and other equipment that requires keyboarding
  • Prolonged periods of focus and attention to detail
  • Consistently requires communication with others (phone, email, in person, Teams, etc.)
  • Regularly engages in activities that have productivity and time driven requirements
  • Some lifting and moving, such as files and other items up to 15 pounds

Position Details: 

  • This is a full-time, salaried position.
  • The position is to be performed in person in our Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office.
  • Monday – Friday with expected hours of 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (work may fall outside of these hours at times).
  • The Trusts & Estates Associate will be a part of the Trusts & Estates Practice Group and report to the Trusts & Estates Chairs.
  • This is a non-supervisory position.
