Toolroom Supervisor
We’re seeking an experienced Toolroom Supervisor to design, build, maintain, and repair precision stamping and progressive dies used in high‐volume metal forming operations. This individual will work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure tooling performs reliably, meets tight tolerances, and minimizes downtime.
Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, CAD/CAM files, and engineering sketches to understand die requirements
- Set up, operate, and maintain manual and CNC machine tools such as mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses
- Fabricate, assemble, and fit dies, jigs, fixtures, and tooling for stamping processes, including progressive dies
- Perform die try‑outs and troubleshoot issues during press operation; conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on progressive stamping dies
- Measure and inspect parts and tooling using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and gauges to ensure dimensional accuracy
- Document tooling maintenance records, report needed repairs, and assist production with tooling issues
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized tool room environment and follow all relevant safety protocols Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or tool & die apprenticeship preferred
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience making and maintaining progressive stamping dies; experience with carbide dies is a plus
- Proficient in reading blueprints, schematics, and CAD/CAM drawings
- Skilled with machine tools (manual and CNC), plus strong manual dexterity for grinding, fitting, shimming, and assembly
- Solid background in metalworking, heat treatment, and metal stamping principles
- Strong problem-solving skills; able to diagnose die issues in‐press or at the bench
- Ability to lift heavy die sets, work standing, and maintain focus under tight tolerances
- Excellent communication, record‐keeping, and teamwork skills
