Position Overview
A respected Chicago law firm is seeking an experienced Insurance Coverage Attorney to join its team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, high-stakes coverage matters in a collaborative and well-regarded legal environment. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of insurance coverage law and a proven ability to deliver strategic legal advice to insurers and corporate clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft clear and comprehensive coverage opinions and reservation/denial letters
- Analyze and advise on the duty to defend and indemnify, including issues involving conflicts of interest and Cumis counsel
- Develop risk transfer and allocation strategies between multiple parties and policies
- Litigate declaratory judgment actions in both state and federal courts
- Represent insurers in contribution and equitable subrogation matters
- Defend against bad faith and extra-contractual liability claims
- Draft and revise insurance policy language for a variety of lines of business
- Provide counsel on first-party property and casualty claims
- Handle appeals and assist in briefing complex insurance coverage issues
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice in Illinois
- Minimum of 5 years of insurance coverage litigation experience
- Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines effectively
- Experience in appellate litigation is a plus
- Commitment to professionalism, client service, and strategic thinking
