Job Title: Quality Control (QC) Inspector – Above Ground Tank Construction
Job Type: Full-Time
The company is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Control (QC) Inspector with a strong background in above ground storage tank (AST) construction. The QC Inspector will be responsible for ensuring that all phases of tank fabrication, welding, assembly, and testing comply with applicable codes, client specifications, project drawings, and internal quality standards.
This role requires field-based inspection on active construction sites and may involve travel to various project locations across the [Region, e.g., Rocky Mountain region or Western U.S.].
Perform inspections of above ground tank fabrication and erection to ensure compliance with:
API 650, API 653, AWWA, ASME, AWS D1.1, and other applicable codes
Review and verify welding procedures (WPS), welder qualifications (WPQ), and ensure compliance during field welding activities
Monitor fit-up, alignment, and dimensional tolerances during tank assembly
Conduct visual weld inspections and coordinate non-destructive examination (NDE) activities such as:
Magnetic particle testing (MT)
Ultrasonic testing (UT)
Radiographic testing (RT)
Document all inspections and generate detailed reports and NCRs (non-conformance reports) as needed
Review mill test reports (MTRs), material certifications, and ensure traceability of materials used
Witness hydrostatic testing and perform final punch list inspections prior to tank commissioning
Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors to resolve quality-related issues
Support QA/QC audits and ensure adherence to the project’s Quality Control Plan
High school diploma or equivalent (required); technical degree or certifications in welding inspection or QA/QC (preferred)
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in quality control for tank construction or heavy industrial projects
Familiarity with API 650/653 tank standards and related fabrication practices
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred or ability to obtain
NDE Level II certification(s) in MT, UT, RT, or PT a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in reading blueprints, weld symbols, and construction drawings
Capable of working outdoors in rugged jobsite conditions
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed
