Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager Position Summary - This is an on-site role in NE Iowa

The EH&S Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the company’s environmental, health, and safety programs across the manufacturing operation. This position serves as the primary resource for workplace safety, environmental compliance, regulatory requirements, employee training, incident investigation, and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety professional who can work effectively on the manufacturing floor, build strong relationships with employees and leadership, and drive a culture where safety is viewed as a shared responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EH&S policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments throughout the facility.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain required safety records, documentation, permits, and regulatory reports.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor machine guarding, lockout/tagout, PPE, ergonomics, chemical handling, and other workplace safety programs.

Incident Management

  • Lead investigations of workplace injuries, near misses, property damage, and environmental incidents.
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective actions.
  • Track incident trends and develop programs to reduce injuries and improve safety performance.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers to ensure corrective actions are completed and sustained.

Training & Employee Engagement

  • Develop and conduct employee EH&S training and orientation programs.
  • Maintain training records and ensure required certifications remain current.
  • Conduct toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Promote employee involvement in safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
  • Develop safety communications that are practical and relevant to manufacturing employees.

Environmental

  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, stormwater, and chemical management as applicable.
  • Maintain environmental permits, records, inspections, and required reporting.
  • Coordinate with outside environmental consultants and regulatory agencies when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, energy consumption, and environmental impact.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop measurable EH&S goals and key performance indicators.
  • Analyze safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives with a focus on eliminating workplace hazards.
  • Work with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HR, and Quality to integrate safety into manufacturing processes.
  • Support the development of emergency response and business continuity plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3–7+ years of EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Experience developing and delivering employee training.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both hourly employees and management.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and safety management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, or similar professional certification.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement.
  • Experience in metalworking, machining, fabrication, plastics, printing/packaging, or other industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Experience implementing behavior-based safety programs.
  • Experience with EHS management software.
