Job Description

Location: Chicago, IL | Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced litigation attorney to join our Chicago defense practice. The position will focus primarily on employment-related claims, professional liability matters, and complex civil litigation representing employers, businesses, professionals, and insurers.

Candidates should have at least 5+ years of civil litigation experience, with insurance defense experience strongly preferred. Experience involving employment practices liability (EPL), E&O/professional liability, or related claims is particularly valuable, but candidates are not expected to have experience in every area listed below.

Areas of Practice

• Insurance defense litigation
• Employment Practices Liability (EPL)
• Employment-related claims involving discrimination, retaliation, harassment, and wrongful termination
• Professional Liability / Errors & Omissions (E&O)
• Directors & Officers (D&O) liability
• Other complex civil defense litigation

Responsibilities

• Manage civil litigation matters from inception through resolution
• Draft and argue motions and other substantive pleadings
• Handle written discovery and take and defend depositions
• Develop case strategy and evaluate claims
• Attend court appearances, mediations, and hearings
• Communicate directly with clients, insurance carriers, and opposing counsel
• Prepare matters for trial and participate in trials as appropriate
• Collaborate with other attorneys on complex litigation matters

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Licensed and in good standing in Illinois
• 5+ years of civil litigation experience
• Insurance defense experience strongly preferred
• Experience with employment-related and/or professional liability claims is highly desirable
• Strong legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
• Experience taking and defending depositions
• Ability to independently manage an active litigation caseload
• Trial experience is a plus, but not required

Compensation & Benefits

• $150,000–$190,000+ base salary, depending on experience
