Mechanical Engineer – HVAC Design

We are seeking a licensed Mechanical Engineer with HVAC design experience to join our team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to manage projects through the full project lifecycle—from schematic design and engineering through construction administration—while working on a diverse range of institutional and commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform HVAC load calculations and ventilation analyses to support system and equipment selection.

  • Design HVAC systems, including hydronic systems, air distribution systems, and associated controls.

  • Develop detailed construction documents, including drawings and specifications, using AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Coordinate designs with architects, owners, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Participate in project bidding and construction administration activities, including:

    • Equipment and material submittal reviews

    • Responding to RFIs

    • Conducting site visits and field observations

    • Supporting project closeout and construction-related coordination

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of HVAC design experience within the architecture/engineering (A/E) industry.

  • Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; candidates must be licensed or able to obtain North Carolina PE licensure within 6 months.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.

  • Experience with HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software, such as Trane TRACE 700 or TRACE 3D.

  • Strong technical knowledge of:

    • HVAC system design and controls

    • Hydronic distribution systems

    • Airside distribution systems

    • Equipment selection and system integration
