JOB DESCRIPTION

A leading structural steel fabricator and erector is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Estimator to join its growing team. This individual will play a critical role in securing new business by preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, industrial, manufacturing, institutional, and specialty steel projects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review project drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements

  • Perform quantity takeoffs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals packages

  • Solicit, evaluate, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates including material, labor, equipment, freight, erection, and subcontract costs

  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives

  • Coordinate with project managers, detailers, engineers, fabrication teams, and field operations during the bidding process

  • Attend pre-bid meetings and participate in project handoff meetings upon award

  • Develop conceptual, budgetary, and hard-bid estimates

  • Prepare bid proposals and scope clarifications

  • Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information

  • Support business development efforts and cultivate relationships with general contractors, owners, and industry partners

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience estimating structural steel fabrication and erection projects

  • Knowledge of structural steel and miscellaneous metals systems and construction practices

  • Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings

  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and preparing detailed project estimates

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software

  • Strong understanding of construction costs, labor productivity, and project scheduling

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously

  • Knowledge of AISC standards and industry best practices preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Base Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 DOE
