Senior Electrical Estimator

Position Overview

A well-established electrical contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator to join their team. The company specializes in commercial and industrial electrical construction and has built a strong reputation for quality workmanship, customer relationships, and successful project execution.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator who is looking for a stable organization where they can take ownership of projects, work closely with customers and project teams, and play an important role in the company's continued growth.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical construction, excellent estimating skills, and the ability to develop accurate, competitive bids from conceptual estimating through final proposal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and competitive bids for commercial and industrial electrical construction projects.
  • Review plans, specifications, drawings, scopes of work, and other project documents to develop accurate estimates.
  • Perform detailed material and labor takeoffs and determine appropriate labor requirements.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Analyze project requirements and identify potential scope gaps, risks, and opportunities.
  • Develop complete bid proposals, including labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and other project costs.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and field personnel to ensure estimates are accurate and constructible.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs as needed.
  • Communicate with General Contractors, owners, vendors, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process.
  • Assist with value engineering and identify cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality or project requirements.
  • Maintain organized estimating documentation and bid files.
  • Track market conditions, material pricing, labor costs, and subcontractor availability.
  • Assist with project turnover from estimating to operations to ensure a smooth transition.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
  • Support the company's overall business development efforts by identifying potential project opportunities and maintaining relationships within the market.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of electrical estimating experience, preferably within commercial and industrial construction.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, labor requirements, and installation practices.
  • Ability to independently estimate projects from plans and specifications through final proposal.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, one-lines, and construction documents.
  • Experience estimating projects of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Strong understanding of project labor and material costs.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and potential project risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with industry-specific electrical estimating software such as Accubid, Accubid Anywhere, ConEst, McCormick, or similar platforms is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a proven electrical estimator who understands both the numbers and the field side of construction. Someone who can look at a set of drawings and quickly identify the scope, labor requirements, material needs, potential challenges, and opportunities is highly valued.

This individual should be comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with Project Managers, field leadership, customers, vendors, and subcontractors.

A background as a Journeyman Electrician, Foreman, Project Manager, or other field-based electrical professional is highly valued, but strong estimating experience is the primary requirement.

The company is looking for someone who takes ownership of their estimates, understands the importance of accuracy and profitability, and wants to become a long-term member of the team.
