The Role: What You'll Be Doing

As a key member of this litigation team, you will be responsible for managing a diverse and complex caseload of trust and estates litigation matters from pre-litigation analysis through trial and appeal. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Representing fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and other interested parties in a wide range of disputes, including:
    • Will and trust contests (e.g., undue influence, lack of capacity, fraud)
    • Breach of fiduciary duty claims
    • Accounting disputes
    • Guardianship and conservatorship proceedings
    • Elective share and heirship disputes
    • Trust modification and termination actions
  • Developing and executing effective litigation strategies.
  • Drafting compelling pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and settlement agreements.
  • Conducting extensive legal research and analysis.
  • Leading and participating in depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.
  • Engaging in sophisticated client counseling, providing clear, practical, and strategic advice during often sensitive and emotionally charged situations.
  • Collaborating with colleagues on complex cases and contributing to the firm's thought leadership.

 

What We're Looking For: Your Expertise

We are seeking a seasoned attorney with:

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
  • A minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in Trust and Estates Litigation. Candidates with substantial, demonstrable experience in a similar practice area (e.g., complex commercial litigation with significant fiduciary components) may also be considered.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex litigation cases independently.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy skills.
  • Deep understanding of Washington state probate code, trust law, and relevant civil procedure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • A client-centric approach, demonstrating empathy and discretion.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software.
  • For remote candidates, a demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently in a virtual environment, maintaining high levels of productivity and client responsiveness.
