Position Summary
The Traveling Safety Manager serves as the on-site safety expert, ensuring that company safety programs and policies are implemented, understood, and followed on all assigned projects. This role requires strong leadership, technical safety knowledge, and the ability to travel extensively to various job sites.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the safety lead on assigned projects, ensuring compliance with company safety programs and OSHA/MSHA regulations.
Develop and implement site-specific Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and risk assessments.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
Provide leadership and training to site personnel on safety protocols and best practices.
Participate in daily pre-shift meetings, general contractor coordination meetings, and other project-related discussions.
Train employees on project-specific safety topics, including fall protection, equipment operation, and hazard awareness.
Verify JHA sign-offs for all ongoing tasks.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-miss events, and implement preventive measures.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies and participate in inspections and audits.
Monitor, analyze, and report on safety performance metrics and recommend improvements.
Provide regular updates and reports to management.
Complete assigned projects and tasks on schedule.
Qualifications
Ability to travel extensively and remain on job sites for several weeks at a time (approx. 75% travel).
Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years of experience in construction safety, preferably within structural steel erection.
Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations.
BCSP certification (CSSP, CHST, STS-C, or equivalent) required or ability to obtain.
Demonstrated expertise in fall protection and related training.
Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 Subpart R (Steel Erection).
Experience with cranes, rigging, forklifts, and scissor lifts a plus.
Excellent communication, technology, and leadership skills.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Field-oriented work requiring walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Ability to stand for extended periods and tolerate outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
Must be willing to travel and work weekends as needed.
