Job Title: Credit Analyst / Underwriter – SBA Lending

Position Summary:
A local Community bank is seeking a dedicated and analytical Credit Analyst / Underwriter for their SBA Lending team to support the evaluation, underwriting, and portfolio management of SBA loan requests. This position plays a key role in helping small businesses access capital while maintaining credit quality in alignment with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) guidelines and internal lending policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial statement analysis, SBA SOP 50 10, and small business credit structures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed financial analysis on SBA 7(a), Express, and 504 loan applications, including historical and projected cash flow.
- Spread financial statements and tax returns for borrowers and guarantors to assess global cash flow and repayment ability.
- Prepare clear and concise credit memoranda outlining creditworthiness, loan structure, risks, and SBA eligibility.
- Analyze business models, industry trends, and management capacity to assess borrower viability and risk profile.
- Collaborate with SBA underwriters, closers, and relationship managers to ensure loan requests are properly structured and compliant.
- Ensure credit recommendations meet current SBA SOP 50 10 requirements and bank credit policy.
- Assist in post-close reviews, annual renewals, and ongoing portfolio monitoring for SBA borrowers.
Loan Types Analyzed:
- SBA 7(a) term loans
- SBA Express lines of credit
- SBA 504 loans in partnership with CDCs
- Franchise, business acquisition, partner buyout, and equipment financing deals
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of credit analysis experience in commercial or SBA lending.
- Strong working knowledge of SBA lending programs and eligibility criteria.
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis, cash flow modeling, and risk rating.
- Experience using SBA E-Tran and familiarity with SBA loan documentation preferred.
- Excellent analytical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple transactions simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal bank credit training or SBA lending certification
- Experience in working with SBA 504 loan structures and CDCs
- Familiarity with loan origination systems and documentation workflows
